A healed quartz crystal fractured/broke during the formation of the mineral when the earth moved during a period of growth. As the crystal continued to form it grew back together, healing the area it had fractured (self-healed). When viewing the healed quartz crystals, the healed areas are quite visible but do not break the surface.
