People come from around the world to dig at our famous mine.
What do I do? The whole process is really quite simple. When you get to our gift shop and let our friendly staff know that you want to dig, you will be shown the digging area out the window (it is easily visible from the gift shop). Once they've shown you where to dig, they will instruct you what you're looking for, remind you of a few rules, and answer any questions you may have.
Upon returning to the desk, you will pay your fee, have the opportunity to purchase tools, protective eye-wear, gloves, etc., be able to view the rules, and sign our guest "sign-in" sheet*.

Do I need to make a reservation? Reservations for families or groups going to the regular digging area are not necessary, just show up ready to have fun.

What is included in my digging fee? Once you pay your digging fee, you are paid for all day. You are welcome to come and go as much as you please, so feel free to take breaks, go to lunch, etc. Included in your digging fee is the guarantee, and a mining bag.
 (You are not limited to only being able to fill the bag, its just complementary, more bags are available for $0.50 each if desired)

What's the guarantee? If you dig at our mine, and are not satisfied with what you find, the adult and senior fees are guaranteed. This means that we will let you go to our back porch, and pick your fees worth or crystal off of our tables. In doing this, we make sure you leave with crystal, and a smile on your face.

How do I clean my crystals? Cleaning depends on the person, many people are OK with soap and water. We use oxalic acid to clean ours. The acid is available for sale in the gift shop in two pound bags for $8.00 each. The two pounds will make 6 gallons of reusable solution and instructions are included. The acid is a very mild acid and will not harm you to touch it.

What are your hours? The mining area is open 7 days a week, 8:00 am - 5:30 pm during the spring and summer.
When winter and fall get here, the mine is open 7 days a week, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.

What are the rules? Here are the rules as listed in our gift shop:

1.     Do not attempt to break or bust rocks in any way for any reason.

2.     Remain in the designated digging area.

3.     Do not throw rocks or dirt for any reason.

4.     Do not go off the back side of the digging area.

5.     Remain off the roads leading to the mining pit.

6.     Do not take your vehicle into the digging area, or on any roads not specified by an employee. Vehicles are to remain either at the gift shop parking lot, or in the designated parking area below.

7.     It is required that you sign in on the supplied sheet* before entering the digging area.

8.     The digging fee must be paid to enter the digging area. (No “watching”)

MINING TIPS

·        Remember to stay hydrated. Refreshments and bagged ice are available in the gift shop.

·        Pets are welcome in the digging area, but must remain on a leash. Ron Coleman Mining assumes no liability for loss, injury, or death of pets.

·        Remember that protective eyewear and gloves, along with digging tools, are for sale in the gift shop.

·        Remember that a first aid kit is available in the gift shop in case of injury.

*By signing our sign-in sheet, you take full liability for any injury, death, or discomfort that may be encountered while digging at Ron Coleman Mining. By “signing in for someone else” you assume liability for that person.
